On the 5th until 7th of July 2019 a major event was held here in Gopeng, Perak which is the Kampar River Festival 2019. This event is categorized as a sport tourism event and it is the first to many more program of its kind.

Initiated by Radak Adventure with the support of Tourism Perak and Ministry of Youth and Sports, the three-days Kampar River Festival (KRF) made its own history as the first, biggest white-water festival in Malaysia, endorsed by the International Rafting Federation (IRF) and Indonesia White Water Federation (FAJI). For the record, IRF is the world governing body for rafting sport responsible for fostering fair, credible and legitimate international rafting competition at all levels since 1997.

Gopeng, Perak is chosen to be the main event venue because of its strategic location for water sports activities. Besides that, it has been our mission to publicly introduce Lembah Kinta as a National Geopark. Hence a lot of activities can be seen done during this 3 days events. From water based sports (that includes rafting race, kayak race and tubing race) other programs has also been held such as River Conservation program and also Geopark Conference. The result and impact received were very positive and encouraging.

Although rafting has been in the industries for decades now, not many white-water sports athlete was developed and given the chance to compete in any international level, especially in Malaysia due to many factors. Whitewater rafting is still considered as a recreational hobby though it is actually a sport. The fundamental of organizing the Kampar River Festival is indeed to give more awareness and exposure to the local young athletes and public that it is possible for Malaysia to have a national team in the future for whitewater rafting.

Through Kampar River Festival 2019, many local teams and athletes from all over Malaysia have been given the chance to compete with other international teams. This is a good platform to seek potential local talent to compete on international level. The local community has also being so supportive by joining the 'Sukan Rakyat', Mural Painting and the 'Gotong-Royong'. This event overall has created so many opportunities and a healthy competition not only for the local athletes, but also for the local business operators and tourism industries as well.
